If you’ve mastered Tec 40 and are ready to take your technical diving skills deeper and further, the PADI Tec 45 Course is your next step. At ABC Diving in Malta, we’ll train you to safely dive to 45 meters, plan and execute single gas-switch decompression dives, and manage more complex dive situations with confidence.
This course is where you begin to think and operate like a true technical diver — extending your depth, refining your skills, and preparing for more challenging environments.
Prerequisites
Who Can Take the PADI Tec 45 Course?
You can enrol if you:
- Are at least 18 years old.
- Hold the PADI Tec 40 certification (or equivalent).
- Are a PADI Rescue Diver with a minimum of 50 logged dives, including 12 dives on enriched air deeper than 18 meters, and 10 dives deeper than 30 meters.
- Medically fit for diving (you must complete a medical form signed by a physician).

Optional Tec 45 Trimix Upgrade – Unlock Even Greater Clarity at Depth
You can take your PADI Tec 45 training in Malta to the next level with our optional Trimix upgrade. This add-on introduces you to diving with helium-based gas blends, giving you a safer, clearer head at depth and a taste of advanced technical diving.
In this upgrade, you’ll learn to use a normoxic trimix blend containing 21% oxygen and up to 35% helium, decrease gas density and reducing the effects of nitrogen narcosis during your deeper dives. This not only increases safety but also improves focus and decision-making in challenging environments.

FAQs About the PADI Tec 45 Course
The Tec 45 Course runs over 3 days. Training includes theory sessions, confined water skills, and open water dives at Malta’s premier technical diving sites.
You’ll use a full technical diving setup, including twinset cylinders and regulators, stage/deco cylinder, and a technical dive computer. If you don’t own your own kit, ABC Diving provides high-quality rental equipment for the duration of your course.
Tec 40 introduces basic decompression diving and equipment use, while Tec 45 expands your depth to 45 meters and strengthens gas-switch skills and problem-solving under stress.
No — Tec 40 is a prerequisite as it builds the essential foundation for Tec 45 diving.
You’ll dive with air or enriched air and up to 100% oxygen for accelerated decompression.
We choose sites like Cirkewwa Marine Park (Including the P29 & MV Rozi Shipwrecks) & The Um El Faroud Shipwreck. Included in the Course is one trip to Gozo to explore shipwrecks such as the MV Karwela, Cominoland or the Hephaestus.
