Optional Tec 40 Trimix Upgrade – Take Your Technical Diving Further

You can enhance your PADI Tec 40 course in Malta with the Tec 40 Trimix Upgrade, an optional add-on designed for divers eager to explore advanced technical diving. This upgrade introduces you to trimix diving, a breathing gas that combines helium, oxygen, and nitrogen. Using trimix helps reduce narcosis and decrease gas density at greater depths, allowing for safer and more controlled deep dives.

During this upgrade, you’ll gain hands-on experience diving with a trimix blend containing 21% oxygen and up to 35% helium, giving you practical skills for advanced technical diving. The Tec 40 Trimix Upgrade also lays the foundation for further technical diving certifications, where trimix becomes essential for deeper, extended dives.

This add-on is perfect for divers who want to explore the benefits of trimix early in their technical diving journey, ensuring safer, clearer-headed dives as you push beyond recreational limits.

FAQs About the PADI Tec 40 Course

The PADI Tec 40 Course is your entry into the exciting world of technical diving, giving you the skills to dive to 40 meters with planned decompression stops. Malta offers some world renowned technical diving, with crystal-clear waters, excellent visibility, and famous wrecks such as the MV Karwela and Um El Faroud. ABC Diving in St. Paul’s Bay combines professional training with access to these spectacular dive sites.

Recreational diving limits you to no-decompression dives up to 40 meters, but the Tec 40 Course teaches you to safely plan and execute dives using twinsets, stage cylinders, and redundant gas supplies, as well as conduct limited decompression stops. For divers in Malta, this means unlocking deeper wrecks, caves, and reefs that recreational training can’t reach.

During your course, you’ll use specialized technical diving gear, including twinsets, stage/decompression cylinders, redundant regulators, dive computers, and other TecRec equipment. At ABC Diving, we supply and maintain all technical diving equipment, so you can focus on learning in Malta’s ideal training conditions.

You must be at least 18 years old, certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent), hold PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) and Deep Diver certifications, and have logged at least 30 dives (10 of them deeper than 18 meters on Nitrox) as required by PADI. Malta’s variety of sites makes it the perfect place to gain the experience needed before and during the course.

Yes! After completing Tec 40, you can progress to the PADI Tec 45 and PADI Tec 50 courses with ABC Diving. Malta’s deep wrecks, such as the MV Imperial Eagle and HMS Maori, provide challenging and rewarding sites for advanced technical diver training.

We offer small class sizes, highly experienced PADI TecRec instructors, modern equipment, and access to Malta’s top technical diving sites. Based in St. Paul’s Bay, we are ideally located for both shore and boat-accessible technical dive training.
