History:

Renowned as the filming location for the original 1980s Popeye movie starring Robin Williams, Anchor Bay boasts a unique historical background. The remnants of the film set, including a concrete jetty and a timber village, have evolved into a popular tourist attraction. The bay derives its name from the substantial anchor utilized during the filming, which remains in place, tethered to a lengthy metal chain.

The Dive:

Embark on a shallow dive with a convenient ladder entry located on the jetty. Upon entering the water, follow the jetty wall, and within minutes, encounter the commencement of the massive metal anchor chain. Track the impressive chain links until you discover the large anchor resting on the sand at 8m depth.

The bay features sizeable boulders scattered across the sandy floor, providing an excellent opportunity for exploration and attracting a diverse array of marine life. A notable highlight is a shallow cave with a spacious air pocket. The cave’s entrance begins at 6m depth, gradually diminishing to 2m as you delve further inside. An expansive cavern above the water level offers a unique space for surfacing.
